Special Law Enforcement Officers (SLEO II) - Harrison Township

The Harrison Township Police Department is accepting applications for Special Law Enforcement Officers (SLEO II). Special Law Enforcement Officers (SLEO II) are authorized to exercise full police powers and duties similar to those of a permanent, regularly appointed full-time police officer. Applicants for SLEO II employment must be able to perform the essential functions of police. Applicants must have a High School Diploma or Equivalent, US Citizenship, New Jersey Residency and a valid New Jersey Driver’s License. Applicants must be able to read, write and speak the English language well and intelligently. Possession of a New Jersey PTC SLEO2 Certification is preferred.   • SLEO candidates will participate in a written exam administered by the New Jersey State Chiefs of Police, but only if deemed necessary by the Chief of Police.
  • Prior to appointment, prospective SLEO personnel shall complete and return a comprehensive employment application.
  • All applicants shall be fingerprinted and subjected to a background investigation, including, but not limited to:
    • Verification of qualifying credentials; and
    • A review of any criminal record; and
    • Verification of employment history; and
    • A review of driving history; and
    • Verification of at least three personal or professional references; and
    • A query of publicly available Internet and information sharing sites to identify activity that promotes or supports unlawful violence or unlawful bias against persons based on race, ethnicity, national origin, religion, gender, gender identity, sexual orientation, or disability; and
    • A query of the NJ Domestic Violence Registry and the NJSP Central Drug Registry; and
    • If the candidate(s) is a former law enforcement officer, the candidate(s) internal affairs file from the former employer(s) will be reviewed for any disqualifiers prior to appointment including national or state decertification records, if available.
  • Participate in a physical fitness exam if deemed necessary by Chief of Police.
  • Participate in an oral interview process, which may consist of multiple interviews.
  • Following a conditional offer of employment, applicants must successfully undergo the same psychological testing that is required of all full-time police officers or a testing process for SLEO approved by the Police Training Commission pursuant to N.J.S.A. 52:17B-70. 5. Following a conditional offer of employment, applicants must successfully pass a drug screening test pursuit to New Jersey Attorney General’s Law Enforcement Testing Policy and this agency’s SOP on Drug Testing.
  • Following a conditional offer of employment, applicants must successfully pass a medical examination in accordance with PTC guidelines. Such medical examination must be documented on a PTC Medical Certification Form (PTC 8A).

$18.00-$22.50 Per hour
